Review

Riasc_canal_pic your time on board you will be taken on a cruise where you can learn more about the history of Guinness and about Dublin’s Grand Canal. The lunch menu is €14.50 for 2 courses and €18.50 for 3 courses. Dinner menu is €27.50 for 2 courses and €35.00 for a 3 course menu. There is now also the option of ordering singly from the menu, or just taking a cheese board and a bottle of Prosecco and watching leafy Dublin pass you by.

The evening we were on board, we cruised from Mespil Road down towards Grand Canal basin and back. It was a lovely evening, and La Peniche is a lot of fun.

The menu has changed recently, and we were able to have a very nice meal while enjoying the trip. I had a Walnut and blue cheese salad to statrt, followed by bacon and cabbage with a cider sauce. Deirdre had the smoked salmon to begin and the seafood pie. All the dishes were really very good, though the smoked salmon and the bacon were judged the winners. There is only a very small galley kitchen, so the menu needs to be simple.

The food is honest and well made, but the unique selling proposition here is not the food, it’s the whole experience. If you have a night out with friends coming up, you could do worse than to book La Peniche.

After a very busy Summer, La Peniche is now open only at the weekend for a few weeks.

Special Offers
Since enjoying a transformation back in March, One Pico is packing them in for what is probably the best value lunch in the City, with two courses on offer for €19.95 and Three for €25. The decor is fab, food brilliant and the value truly surprising. Don't miss it, this can't last forever.
We love Seargrass in Portobello. Sean is one of the city's most talented chefs and is constantly coming up with new dishes and tastes to tantilize. Well now he has done it again with the new Platai Bia menu.
This is one of the best deals we have come across, not least because the items on the menu are not what you expect on a cut price menu - duck, rack of lamb and good fish dishes all appear. Telephone +353 (0) 41 9835410 or e mail info@scholarshotel.com.
