Review

Kilronan Kilronan is the sister hotel of Lough Rynn, and the latest addition to the Hanly Group of luxury properties. A ruined Gothic revival, this romantic, historic building in a breath-taking location is brought about by the people who restored the magnificent Lough Rynn Estate. This is something very special indeed.

It is one of a few Irish estates that can trace its history back to royal families. This secluded, luxury, Roscommon Castle is majestically set on the shores of Lough Meelagh, surrounded by over forty acres of breathtaking scenery, lush green pastures, ancient forests and historical points of interest. Approached by a meandering drive that passes acres of magnificent Roscommon lawns, and a glistening lake which commands the panoramic beauty of the surroundings.

The entire facility spans over 49 acres of an Ireland that is idyllic, rich in history and charmed with natural beauty. Seamlessly blending Old-World elegance with contemporary luxuries, Kilronan Castle delivers impeccable, unobtrusive service. Guests can relax under the careful attention of the staff and enjoy an exquisite selection of gourmet foods and wines; unwind slowly in the Castle's Spa or enjoy a good book in the Library or Palm Court.

The Douglas Hyde Restaurant, named after the first President of Ireland, who was born in Castlerea, County Roscommon, offers an elegant, fine-dining experience which is unique in the region. With research and tasting of fresh. Local produce, the Head Chef Sebastian Daniel, has created a series of Table d'Hote and A la Carte menus which use local suppliers from Roscommon and the surrounding counties, trying for the most part to use produce in season. The discreet service and luxurious furnishings of the Douglas Hyde Restaurant offer a perfect setting in which to enjoy the traditional art of elegant dining.

The wine list has been carefully selected from vineyards across France, Italy, Spain and the New World. The restaurant is open daily for dinner from 6p.m. until 10p.m. & for Sunday lunch from 1.00pm until 3.30pm . Situated just 45 minutes from Sligo Airport, one hour from Knock International Airport & 2 hours from Dublin International Airport, Kilronan Castle is an ideal base from which to explore the vibrant cities of Sligo, Dublin and Galway, the magical lake region and Ireland's rugged West Coast.

Since enjoying a transformation back in March, One Pico is packing them in for what is probably the best value lunch in the City, with two courses on offer for €19.95 and Three for €25. The decor is fab, food brilliant and the value truly surprising. Don't miss it, this can't last forever.
We love Seargrass in Portobello. Sean is one of the city's most talented chefs and is constantly coming up with new dishes and tastes to tantilize. Well now he has done it again with the new Platai Bia menu.
This is one of the best deals we have come across, not least because the items on the menu are not what you expect on a cut price menu - duck, rack of lamb and good fish dishes all appear. Telephone +353 (0) 41 9835410 or e mail info@scholarshotel.com.
