Review

Billy & Diana Kirby’s Bar & Restaurant at Ballinhassig, Co.Cork opened its doors in May 2003. This family run pub on the Bandon Road enjoys a prominent position and is easy enough to find. This premises is well positioned for patrons wishing to break their journey to West Cork.

The traditional farming community of Ballinhassig is situated on the N71 within 10km of Cork City. This gateway to West Cork offers visitors a full range of facilities including restaurants and pubs, some with traditional entertainment. The area is known for road bowling and a thriving equestrian environment, featuring hunting, point-to-point meetings, gymkhanas, riding centres and horse breeders.

This is a family ran business with both proprietors ensuing leading roles in making sure visitors encounter a pleasant and authentic experience. Billy works as head chef and has extensive experience in the restaurant industry, having previously worked in renowned establishments such as Adare Manor and Bawnleigh Country House. Diana runs the front of house, and has vast experience in the pub and restaurant trade and previously worked in numerous locations through-out West Cork. Both have huge community connections and are involved in sporting fundraisers.

This duo along with their dedicated excellent staff provides an environment whereby excellence is aspired and achieved from initial greeting to farewell.

The menu consists of good, honest home cooking. Choose from their seafood chowder, fish specials such as monkfish and prawns, or fillet of sea bream. We have the rack of lamb, with a spring onion mash and a herb jus. Desserts are home made and delicious, and prices are very reasonable, while the service is as friendly and informal as you would expect in this family run premises.

The quality of service offered is taken very seriously and Kirby’s constantly strive to make your visit one to remember. The ethos of the restaurant works on the philosophy of 'quality food sourced locally', and Kirby’s makes a grand spot to stop off while touring West Cork.
