Review

It is a brave and risky move to open a restaurant in times of recession, when people are cutting back on discretionary spending. Mallow local, Diarmuid O’Riordan, took that risk in September 2010 when he opened Peppers Restaurant at the White Deer.

Peppers at the White Deer is situated on Bridge Street, in an imposing limestone building, where Goldens’ Pub once stood. It is close to Mallow’s most famous landmarks including the Clock House and the Blackwater Bridge and is adjacent to Mallow Castle, home of the world renowned White Deer herd. The restaurant is instantly recognisable and complements the many other businesses on the street.

Diarmuid’s philosophy is to use the freshest and finest seasonal ingredients, sourced locally where possible, cooked to order, and served simply. An extensive menu caters for all tastes and dietary requirements. Food is prepared fresh every day using locally sourced produce where possible. This is to ensure an enjoyable and memorable dining experience. Favourite dishes include Peppers’ Stone-baked Pizza, Nachos, Supreme of Clonakilty Chicken and Home-made Hand-cut Chunky Chips. For those with a sweet tooth make sure to leave room for desert which is baked in-house daily and includes Malteser & Toblerone Cheesecake and Kiwi & Strawberry Pavlova.

The menu includes a variety of well chosen and well priced wines and there is a keenly priced Early Evening Menu available weekdays and weekends until 7 p.m.

The restaurant is stylishly decorated with prominent features such as a red brick pizza oven and a cast iron fireplace. It has a spacious upstairs dining area available for private functions for up to 50 people, ideal for all occasions including Christenings, Holy Communions, Confirmations, birthday parties, etc. It is the perfect space for a surprise party and finger food is always an option. The seating in this room is flexible and can be arranged to your specification. Set menus can be designed to suit your requirements.

Peppers is a family-friendly restaurant, offers a childrens menu. All food is freshly made to order, nothing is frozen except the ice-cream!
