The Russell Restaurant is on Ludlow Street in Navan is, situated over two floors and seating up to 160 people, it can be full of action on a Saturday night. With both Irish and European influences there is something for all tastes on a wide selection of menus from Early Bird, a Set Menu, an A La Carte and even a Mini Mi. Delicious food and exceptional value for money, the early bird offers 2 courses for €25 and 3 courses for €30. Wednesday, Thursday & Sunday the early bird is extended to 9pm.
The atmosphere in The Russell is relaxed but the décor is smart and over stated. With a glitzy bar to the front and a smart dining room to the rear separated by heavy curtains, it is the perfect location for any get together or occasion as well as an intimate dinner for two. The restaurant is run by Carmel Darcy and Darren O Reilly, who can both be seen front of house meeting and greeting.
All of the menus offered an excellent array of foods from seafood, meat and game. Staff were really helpful and obliging; my problem with such a menu is that I want everything, so I tend to ask for advice, and on this occasion it was spot on. I decided on the grilled skewered scallops and mint pea puree to start, followed by breast of chicken satay, coconut basmati rice with chilli and coriander relish on the side. I had just enough so that you didn’t have that stuffed feeling after eating, and so had room for a huge piece of pavlova which was served with loads of cream and fresh fruit, and sat chatting over a good bottle of Pinot Grigio which was good value at €24.95
Most of the dishes can also be ordered as tapas and enjoyed in the bar area, so if it is a night out where drink and good company with great nibbles is what is on the cards, The Russell can still be your destination.
