Brambles Cafe started out in the old Dundrum shopping centre, about fifteen years back. I live close to it, and the food was excellent from day one. Fresh, interesting and tasty, it was a serious step up from the usual fare. Fast forward a decade and a half and the food is still top notch, but you will find them in sixteen locations.
The Dundrum Town Centre has a multitude of restaurants to choose from, but cafe wise the choice is more limited, and Brambles offer two locations. One on the Mill Pond out front, and a larger one on the middle floor beside Hollister.
A large deli counter displays the options; chicken and leek or beef and Guinees pies, salmon roulade with sundries tomatoes and broccoli, homemade lasagne, a choice of savoury potato cakes or large vol au vents in a variety of flavours. Salads play a big part as well, mixed bean, potato salad, clergy and apple, pasta and mixed leaves.
The dessert section is delicious; numerous cheesecakes battle it out with strudels, meringues and Pavlovas as eell as carrot cake and chocolate eclairs.
Try the salmon roulade, it's wonderful with a mixed salad, while the cottage pie hits the spot on a cold day. A vegetarian option can make a nice change and the courgette and aubergine pie is excellent. Follow up with a slice of something sweet and a coffee and you're good to go.
Brambles isn't a restaurant; but the food is of top quality, and the produce is fresh and tasty. The cakes are really very good, and the staff are always polite and seem a happy bunch.
This family owned business has done a good job of growing without losing focus, and is still one of the best of its kind in Dublin, let alone Dundrum.
